If a user searches with keyword related to your blog on search engines, the Search engine retrieves millions of results from its large database and displays to the user. Search engine rank is nothing but the position of your webpages in the displayed results. For instance, If you search for blogging tips on Google, thousands of results will be displayed in seconds. If your webpage appears first on Search Engine, then your page will be having the highest rank. Applying SEO techniques helps in increasing search engine rankings for individual posts or web pages. Implementing SEO to your blog post involves integrating some specific catchphrases (Keywords) in between the content, Which in turn will be integrated into actual content. Also, optimizing headings using the h1-h6 tags will help your SEO, optimizing images using the alt tag, etc… 

On Page SEO
On Page, Search Engine Optimization involves modifying individual posts content according to proper SEO. On page site optimization requires writing unique, high-quality content, integrating keywords into the post at appropriate places, using H1, H2, H3 headings, using eye catchy titles for articles, maintaining keyword density, and many more.

Off Page SEO
Off Page site optimization involves Link building, Link exchanges, etc. Just obtaining links from other websites (backlinks). To help you get more link, try submitting your blog to open directories, submitting to social directories like Digg, Reddit, Stumbleupon, Pinterest among others. Off page SEO involves increasing popularity of your own link, gaining DA (Domain Authority)

White Hat Tricks
White hat SEO are those most search engines accept and recommend. Involves the creation of content targeting for users, not for search engines. Good quality posts, unique posts, Avoiding copy and paste (C & P), etc...

Black Hat Tricks
Bad for SEO, I strongly kick against it. It is also referred to as spam indexing. Black hat techniques include cloaking (showing one type of page to search engines and serving different page to users), creation of doorway pages (low-quality pages stuffed with keywords), Keyword stuffing, Meta tag stuffing (using unrelated tags), Ranking for keywords using multiple websites or URLs. 

Applying Black hat techniques only helps you temporary, but once you are identified by search engines you will not be considered, and your site will be blacklisted.
